Awareness is the basis…

Awareness is the basis, or what you might call the “support,” of the mind. It is steady and unchanging, like the pole to which the flag of ordinary consciousness is attached.

When we recognize and become grounded in awareness of awareness, the “wind” of emotion may still blow. But instead of being carried away by the wind, we turn our attention inward, watching the shifts and changes with the intention of becoming familiar with that aspect of consciousness that recognizes

“Oh, this is what I’m feeling, this is what I’m thinking.” As we do so, a bit of space opens up within us. ~ Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, “The Aim of Attention”

I am testing a new type of post (for TBLC): an Audio post. This idea has been tumbling around in my mind for a few weeks.

‘The Bodhicaryavatara’ by Santideva (Shantideva) is a most wonderful jewel. I hope to write a review in the next few weeks, but for now….I can only hope my voice does some justice to this treasure.

Moral Education begins at home

Whatever the intellectual quality of the education given our children, it is vital that it include elements of love and compassion, for nothing guarantees that knowledge alone will be truly useful to human beings. Among the major troublemakers’ society has known, many were well-educated and had great knowledge, but they lacked a moral education in qualities such as compassion, wisdom, and clarity of vision. ~ His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama
