Goodness, caring, and wisdom ….happiness

THIS I BELIEVE: That phenomena do not have any kind of demonstrable, intrinsic existence. That anything that is the composite sum of other parts is, logically, impermanent. That suffering is a given in any form of existence where confusion and ignorance are present. That when confusion and ignorance have been definitively eliminated, and goodness, caring, and wisdom have entirely taken their place, that is true happiness.

~ Pamela White, “A Slow, True Path” (Winter 2008)

Antidote to anger

The most important benefit of patience consists in the way it acts as a powerful antidote to the affliction of anger – the greatest threat to our inner peace, and therefore our happiness. The mind, or spirit, is not physical, it cannot be touched or harmed directly. Only negative thoughts and emotions can harm it. Therefore, only the corresponding positive quality can protect it. ~ His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama

Qualities such as love..

If indeed the qualities such as love, patience, tolerance, and forgiveness are what happiness consists in, and if it is also true that compassion,

defined as concern for others, is both the source and the fruit of these qualities,

then the more we are compassionate, the more we provide for our own happiness. ~ His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama

Only when

Only when we are no longer afraid, do we begin to live in every experience, painful, or joyous, to live in gratitude for every moment, to live abundantly.

~ Dorothy Thompson
